Ice Lake is the 12th episode in Season 5 and 100th overall.

| The guardian teleports in Misao's room out of nowhere, with Elena near him. Misao is surprised by this visit, and asks what are they doing here. Guardian says Shi no Shi is under attack. Rebels are at the prison level trying to rescue the prisoners, and he only had time to save the most valuable one. Misao looks violently for a while, then says he did the right thing. Meanwhile Elena is trying to get free of the guardian's hold, while pointlessly telling him to let her go. Misao walks closer to them, grabs Elena's head from her chin and reads her mind. As Elena cries helplessly, Misao sees that Klaus is now free. She guesses Bonnie should be saved too. Then leaves Elena, and says her friends are on move, so protecting the doppelganger is now their highest priority. She tells the guardian to take Elena to the island and make sure she stays there. As he does so, she will go to Shi no Shi and do some damage control. Guardian nods, and disappears with Elena. After they are gone, Misao walks to her closet, takes out a box, and puts it on the table. Then opens the box and looks at the magic sphere in it, while smiling dangerously.
Tatia and Klaus walk out of the forest while holding hands and come near others, who are apparently discussing what should be done next. Everyone seems to agree on Elena must have been taken to a much more secure place than she was in, but Damon disagrees on there is no saving her. The discussion continues for a while until Damon reminds them that he won't go anywhere until he saves Elena, so they should drop it. Nathan asks Bonnie if she can locate her, which she replies not without a personal item of hers. Upon this people ask how does he plan to find her in the first place. Tatia says maybe she can help on that department, because even though distant, she's still a relative of Elena so she could be used to build a connection. Bonnie says that won't work, because they can't build a connection unless they have Elena's blood. Tatia says Elena has her blood. Which means her blood should work too. Bonnie thinks for a moment, and says that might actually work. Max opens a map in front of them, and as Ulma watches, Tatia cuts her hand to drop a few drops of blood on the map. Bonnie, surprised by Tatia's expertness at it, curiously asks if she has done this before. Tatia smiles and says not lately. Then they hold hands and Bonnie starts chanting. Tatia weirds out by the language she's using, and looks at her weirdly. Then closes her eyes and focuses. After a while, Bonnie asks if she's feeling anything. Tatia says she's not. Bonnie feels strange and opens her eyes. Ulma looks afraid and asks if something's wrong. Bonnie says something is blocking her. Max says he's not surprised, because they would know Bonnie would try to locate Elena, so they must have taken some precautions. Bonnie says this is not it. This thing that blocked her is different but it also felt familiar. Damon asks what does that supposed to mean. Suddenly Tatia opens her eyes and leaves Bonnie's hands. She looks terrified. She slowly gets up and says she knows what this is. Everybody looks at her curiously. Tatia understands that they are waiting for an explanation. She quickly looks at them, and says Elena is in another hot spot. Elena finds herself in a different room. Surprised by the luxury of the room, she slowly turns to the guardian. Elena: "Is this Inari's place?" Guardian: "No. This is the place where you would clean up and be prepared for the sacrifice." Elena: "The sacrifice?" Guardian: "Yes." Elena: "I thought Inari wanted to sacrifice me on my 20th birthday." Guardian: "She still does." Elena: "So what, you're going to keep me here for a whole year?" Guardian: "Your friends are becoming a liability. You will be kept here until we get them." Elena: (smiles uncomfortably) "If you think you can stop my friends then you have another think coming!" (guardian doesn't say a thing, but punches Elena so hard that she falls to the floor and rolls for a while. Then she looks at the guardian while holding her face) "That was a mistake." Guardian: "Punish me!" Elena: (gets up) "Not me. But Inari will. You are not allowed to hit me like that." Guardian: "On the contrary, I am allowed to use any method I see fit to put you in your place. I could even kill you, and Inari could bring you back because you are supernatural. Now I know you already died twice, and I don't think it's a fancy feeling, so if you don't want to go through a third, don't test me." The guardian disappears, leaving Elena in shock and upset.
Bonnie: "What is a hot spot?" Tatia: "Thousands of years ago, Inari thought the witches are plotting against her, so she started a witch hunt. It was a genocide, and it is said to be the most bloody thing this dimension has ever seen." Damon: "And let me guess. Dead witches left their energies behind?" Tatia: "Something like that. After the genocide started, the witches who could survive gathered to join forces and create several places they can hide." Ulma: "So if she's in one of those places.." Tatia: "We can't find it. Even Inari couldn't." Bonnie: "You said she's in another hot spot. What did you mean exactly?" Tatia: (looks at everyone) "Your rebel base is also one of them." Ulma: (shocked) "What?" Damon: (surprised that Ulma doesn't know) "You didn't know?" Ulma: "No!" Tatia: "I was trying to locate Damon, but something was blocking me. That's when I realized he was lucky enough to find one of those hideouts." (looks at Damon) "I couldn't figure out where until I saw you with rebels." Ulma: "So you know where our base is?" Tatia: "I don't. And don't tell me either. The less I know the better." Damon: "So Elena is in a hotspot. Now what?" Tatia: "I don't know." Damon: "Think!" Tatia: "If Inari couldn't find these places what is my chance?" Damon: "Inari did find those places. She took Elena to one of them, remember?" Tatia: "I'm not Inari!" Damon: "You have Bonnie, the most powerful witch I've ever known. And these spells were cast by witches, so channel to her, and do it!" Tatia: "It doesn't work like that!" Klaus: (sighs) "Where are my witches when I need them." Bonnie: "Please don't, Klaus!" Klaus: "If they were here they would laugh at how weak you are. Gloria, Maddox, Greta.." When Bonnie hears the name Greta, she suddenly looks at Klaus, as she remembered something. Bonnie: "Greta?" Klaus: "Martin girl. The one whose brother you had a crush on." Bonnie: "Martin witches!" (looks around randomly) "I think I know how to find Elena!" Damon: "How?" Bonnie: "After they died, I read all of their grimoires and I remember most of the spells, including the one Jonas used to send Luka's soul to undagger Elijah." Ulma: "I thought the hotspot cannot be found by that kind of stuff." Tatia: "I know what you're talking about. Astral projection. Doesn't exactly count magic, with enough focus any normal person can do it. We'll just be cheating a little by using our powers." Bonnie: "That's right!" (looks at Tatia) "So here's how we're gonna do it. You will picture Elena in your mind, and I will send you to her. You know these places, so you'll learn where Elena is, then you'll come back and tell us." Tatia nods. Klaus is apparently surprised that this is resolved this quickly, and Damon and others are apparently impressed. In short while, Bonnie and Tatia start doing the magic.
While Elena is taking a hot and long shower, Tatia suddenly shows up in the bedroom. She looks around trying to figure out where she is. Then she remembers she's supposed to find Elena, so she starts looking around until she hears the shower's voice. She understands Elena must be taking a shower, so she looks out of the window for a while. Suddenly her looks change, and she jumps back with fear. Then a shadow passes through the window. Tatia gets up and looks behind it. Only then she realizes that it was a phantom. But as she looks, Tatia realizes that it's not the only phantom. Suddenly the door opens and a guardian looks inside. Not knowing what to do, she stays still. Guardian looks around for a moment, but cannot see anything, as Tatia is invisible, so he closes the door. Tatia goes to the bathroom and yells to Elena, but she can't hear her. Feeling helpless, she looks around, while knowing she can't scare Elena. Then she sees that the mirror is fogged. Hoping that it will work, she tries to write something on it. Feeling happy that it does, she smiles and starts writing. A little while later, Elena finishes showering and walks out, but she is shocked to see something is written on the mirror. In capitals, it was saying: "I am Tatia. They will save you. Stay outside tomorrow. Need to go. Erase this.". Shocked to see the message, Elena calls out to Tatia. She gets no response, but still tries until she hears the door to outside her bedroom is opened. She quickly cleans the fog and so the message from the mirror. Suddenly the bathroom door is opened. By the time the message was gone. Guardian: "Who were you talking to?" Elena: "No one." Guardian: "You were saying Tatia's name." Elena: (tries to be spontaneous) "I know she's here. She's my only family left, so you have to let me see her." Guardian: "I don't have to do anything." Elena: "If I'm going to stay here a whole year, you have to give me some liberty. Like, I want to walk once in a while." Guardian: (surprised) "You want to walk?" Elena: "Yeah, walk." Guardian: "Fine." He holds Elena and teleports somewhere. It is freezing where he took her, and Elena is immediately startled because of the extreme cold. She quickly holds herself and starts shaking heavily. She is in pain because of the cold, and her teeth start hitting each other. Elena: "What is this place!" Guardian: "Just outside the house. The whole island is like this." Elena: "Island?" Guardian: "It is this cold every time of the year. You want to walk now?" Elena: (looks at the guardian. Still shaking, grits her teeth because of the cold, and speaks angrily) "I'm wet, and naked! Of course not now!" Upon this, guardian teleports Elena back to the bedroom. Elena is still shaking. Guardian: "Put on some clothes. I'll think about it." Then he walks out and locks the door. Elena looks behind him.
Tatia: "She is at the Ice Lake." Meredith: "Ice Lake?" Nathan: "A lake, but completely frozen." Tatia: "And there is an island at the middle. That's where Elena is." Damon opens his mouth to say something, but Nathan speaks first. Nathan: "Why would they take her there? I mean it's too cold for a human being, she can't live there." Tatia: "She was taken well care of." Damon: "Well that's comforting." Ulma: "The lake is not far. One day on foot." Damon: "For a vampire?" Ulma: (understands he will run) "Oh no! I'm not telling you that!" Damon looks at her furiously. But Nathan speaks again before him. Nathan: "Why not, just tell him." Ulma: "Nathan!" Nathan: "The lake is at the..." Ulma: (yells with a strict tone) "Nathan!" Nathan: "What? What do you want him here for? He doesn't want to be here. You tell him where the lake is, he goes, he dies, we all win!" Meredith: "He.. He doesn't.. mean that." Nathan: "No, I mean it, Meredith. If he wants to play hero, by all means fine. But if he stays here, he's gonna get us all killed, he's even willing to leave his own friends behind. He has no clue about what team work is!" Damon: "I don't play well with others." Nathan: "I bet you're proud of that!" Damon: "Do you have a problem with me?" Nathan: "You know I have a big one with you, Damon, don't make me speak!" Damon: "Say one word and you'll be tasting your eyeballs!" Nathan: "I can see your next 10 moves even before you think of them, Damon. So don't think that I'm afraid of you." Meredith: "What is going on with you two?" Tatia: "Actually, Nathan, Damon might be right about going alone. No humans are welcome on that island. In fact no one except vampires are welcome." Everyone gets curious after this. Klaus: "Why?" Tatia: (remains silent for a moment. Then..) "Elena is protected by phantoms." Everyone is shocked. Ulma: "Phantoms?" Bonnie: (apparently the expression on Tatia's face bugged Bonnie big time) "How many?" Tatia: (looks at Bonnie, and then others. She's clearly very uncomfortable) "Every single one on the Dark Dimension!" This news literally freak everyone out. Bonnie: "You're joking!" (Tatia can't say anything) "You're joking, right?" Klaus: (looks at Tatia, and understands) "No, she's not!" Max: "This doesn't make sense." Klaus: "Why?" Max: "The phantoms I know feed on human spirits. So why would they not attack Elena?" Bonnie: "Because of me." Ulma: "Huh?" Damon: "Oh, right!" Bonnie: "Misao is able to control phantoms." Ulma: "How can she do that?" Damon: "It's a spell she and Misao did back on earth. Misao manipulated her and.. it's kind of a long story." Meredith: "So that puts the witches out of the game." Ulma & Tatia: "Why?" Klaus: "Witch powers don't work on phantoms." Bonnie: (looks at Damon and Klaus) "So it should be you two." Ulma: "This is insane! You are going up against all of the phantoms on this plane at once, and it's what? Only you two?" Meredith: "I can be helpful." Damon: "You can only be helpful for one shot. Then you're a liability." Meredith: "Then I'll make sure it's a nice shot." Damon: "You're a liability until you take that shot too!" Meredith: "You can't stop me, Damon! I came here for the same reason with you, and I will see it through! We are in this together, so I'm coming!" Nathan: "If Meredith goes so do I." Meredith: "Nathan, you don't have to do this." Nathan: "What, I can see future, it'll be a great help." Meredith : "We both know the reason you're coming is not that." Nathan: (looks at Meredith with love) "I can't let anything happen to you!" (Meredith smiles sincerely) Damon: "How romantic!" (scoffs, and looks at Bonnie) "Are you going to lecture me or, just say you're coming too?" Bonnie: "Of course I'm coming. This is Elena we're talking about! Okay, I may be useless against phantoms, but there must be something I can do!" Ulma: "We will go too." Damon: "Speaking of insanity.." Ulma: "I promised you that we will help you save Elena. I intend to keep my end of the deal. Like Bonnie said, even if we seem useless, there should be something we can do to help. Besides, we're not gonna just stay here and wait until you come back!" Klaus: "Let them, Damon. I know how they can help." Damon: (tired of discussing) "Ugh, fine." (looks at everyone) "Shall we go now?" Tatia: "I can't come with you." Bonnie: "Why?" Tatia: "I already took enough risk with helping you guys out so far, but if I'm seen with you, that'd be the end for me." Klaus: "Why?" Damon: "It's because Inari will kill her." Tatia: "I'm afraid she might do much worse." Bonnie: "Like what?" Tatia: "Like taking my talisman, breaking my physical foothold, sentencing me to remain as a ghost forever, without being able touch, or talk. If I go to the lake with you, there is no turning back. Being queen is the one thing I have here, and I can't lose it." (everyone gets upset upon this, but they all seem to understand) "I'm sorry." Damon: (nods to her) "You do what you have to do." Tatia smiles, and turns back. While walking, she suddenly turns back and looks at them. Tatia: "Is Elena my child?" They are surprised by this question. Bonnie: "She is your family." Tatia: "Damon told me she looked just like me, but I never thought.." She can't complete her sentence. But Damon understands her. Damon: "I know." Tatia: "Please save her." Damon: (smiles) "We will." Tatia smiles too, and then walks away.
The door is knocked, and Samara opens to see Christian. Samara: "Chris!" Christian: "Good morning." Samara: "Good morning. What're you doing here?" Christian: "Can I come in?" Samara: "Normally I wouldn't say this, but I think I need you to prove that it's really you." Christian: (looks at her for a moment) "I'm afraid you're the only one who can do it." (Upon this Samara smiles barely and steps aside. Christian walks in) "Thanks." Samara: (closes the door) "So, what brings you here?" Chris: "Are you free tonight?" Samara: "Huh?" Chris: "I was passing by Grill, and I saw this poster. There's an amateur band coming in tonight and.. I know it doesn't sound appealing, but I think they won some competitions, and.. It's supposed to be fun." Samara: "Fun?" Chris: "Yeah, fun. You know the thing we haven't been having lately?" Samara: (looks at him silently for a while) "Is this a date?" Chris: "Huh? No! No, I asked the others too. That certainly wouldn't be a date." (smiles) Samara: "And they are coming?" Chris: "They said they'll think about it." Samara: "Hmm." Chris: "So, will you.. be coming?" Samara: "I'll think about it." Chris: (laughs briefly) "Well, don't think too much, they're starting at six." Samara: (quietly) "Okay." Chris: "Okay." (while walking to the door, suddenly turns back) "Why do I get the feeling I'm the only one who is enthused about this?" Samara: "I don't know, maybe because you are." Chris: (smiles) "I get you. So you won't be coming." Samara: "I said I'll think about it." Chris: (laughs briefly) "Okay." Then goes out.
Damon: "Are you going to tell me how they can be useful?" Klaus: (first checks his back to see if anyone is close enough to hear) "When we make our move to save Elena, they will be there to save us from phantoms." Damon: "And how are they supposed to do it? They are humans!" Klaus: "That's how." Damon: "Stop being cryptic!" Klaus: "Am I the only one who can connect the dots?" Damon: "I don't see any dots to connect, that's the problem!" Klaus: "Look. We are vampires, phantoms can't hurt us. And Elena cannot be fed on, because they are told so." Damon: "And you think that gives us an upper hand? Phantoms are faster than us, they're gonna chase us to the end of the world!" Klaus: "That's why we need humans. These are enhanced phantoms, they cannot be killed easily like on earth. So once we get Elena, we will drag the phantoms to them. Rebels will be helpless, and while phantoms feed on them, we will have enough time to outrun them with Elena." Damon: "Then what?" Klaus: "We will think then. But first things first." Damon: (referring to the rebels) "So you are dragging them to their death?" Klaus: "I came here to save Elena. I simply don't care about the cost." Damon: (looks at Klaus for a while, then shrugs) "Fine." They continue walking.
The room starts to fade and she finds herself back in the time, where the rebels came to rescue Elena and others. From the moment Klaus turned into a wolf and slaughtered her comrades to the moment Tatia helped and ran with rebels, she sees the whole thing as it goes down. Then opens her eyes and comes back to the original time. Upon finding out Tatia's betrayal, she is filled with an incredible rage.
The interest in the band was apparently higher than expected. When Caroline and June walk inside, June raises her eyebrows, expressing her surprise. They luckily find a table and rush to it before someone else sits. Caroline looks around randomly. June understands that she's longing for Matt. A while later band starts singing. They start with known songs to get the crowd in the mood. In the crowd Caroline sees Christian, who is sitting alone, and apparently he's not having fun. She asks June if they should go near him. June smirks and says that won't be necessary. Upon this Caroline looks at where she looks and sees Samara walking in the grill. June focuses and connects their minds so that they can find each other. Both understand it's June and look around until they see her. They all smile to each other and Samara goes near Christian. Caroline apparently enjoyed this little move. The rebels have arrived to the Ice Lake. They look at the horizon, but they see no island. Nathan says the mist must be covering it. But it's there, they shouldn't worry about it. Klaus looks down and says he's more concerned about the ice. Max says this lake has been like this for as long as it is known. There is even a chance all of the water is now ice. Ulma says that's not possible. Max says he knows. Damon walks near the ice and hits it a couple of times, until he is convinced that it is thick enough to walk on it. But he says it may not carry all of them at once. Besides, it wouldn't be wise to take everyone to the phantoms' lair at once. It's too much risk. Ulma agrees and says they will stay here and get prepared. Damon quickly looks at her. They nod to each other. Then Damon, Klaus, Bonnie, Meredith and Nathan start walking on the ice. Misao approaches to Tatia's palace. Upon seeing her, the guards at the entrance try to say queen doesn't want to see anyone, but they were interrupted when Misao simply pushes them down magically and they are buried underground. Then Misao opens the gate with a kick and walks towards the palace. She uses intense magic to smack down everyone around who try to stop her. Finally she walks in but meets another party. She quickly pulls one of the soldiers and uses him as a shield until the first shooting is over. Then she attacks them with fists and magic. Upon seeing another party is coming down, she uses magic to smash the stairs. All soldiers crash to the opposite wall and they all go unconscious. One soldier however jumps in the nick of time and holds to the edge where the stairs were, trying not to fall. Another soldier at the same floor is reloading his gun. Misao quickly jumps near him and after a ridiculously short fight she throws him down. Then telekinetically raises the soldier holding to the edge and simply throws him to Tatia's door. Shocked by the entering, Tatia freaks and gets up quickly, but is scared like hell to meet an enraged Misao. Misao quickly pulls her talisman by using magic, and then squeezes it with power. Tatia yells helplessly. Tatia: "No!" Misao: "Helping out the rebels, huh?" Tatia: (almost cries) "Please! You can see why!" (Misao looks at her to read her mind. Then looks at her. She tries not to lose her scariness, but despite the effort, she's clearly softened a little) "Please!" Misao: (looks at her while still angry) "You love him." Tatia: "Yes." (sniffs) "I didn't know you had him too. But when I saw him in there, I.. I couldn't, I just couldn't!" Misao: "Do you have any idea how much trouble you put me through?" Tatia: (cries) "I'm sorry!" Misao: (looks at her for a while. But her anger left it's place to pity now) "You're lucky I believe you." (both remain silent for a while. Then Misao lowers her hand and stops applying pressure to the talisman) "I'm gonna let this go just for once, just for the sake of our mutual respect. But if I see you at the wrong side again.." Tatia: "You won't! I promise!" Misao: "Don't get involved with my business again. Stay out of it! Understand?" Tatia: "Yes." Misao looks at her for a while, then throws the talisman back to her. Tatia catches it in the air and holds on to it. Misao realizes she never saw Tatia this scared before. But knowing that she made her point, turns back and leaves without saying another word.
Chris: "Wasn't so bad, was it?" Samara: "No, it really was fun." Chris: "Oh, I think it still is. These guys are kick ass!" Samara: "Yeah, I gotta say, I had big prejudices." Chris: "So why did you come? You thought this is a date?" Samara: "Isn't it?" (Chris doesn't say anything, but he looks at the table, and his facial expression indicates rather discomfort) "I knew it." (looks around for a while) "I knew it the second you walked in my apartment." Chris: "So I guess it's no secret." Samara: "What?" Chris: "That I like you." Samara: "Actually you managed to hide it pretty well so far. Unless it just started tonight." Chris: "Actually I had my eyes for you for quite a long time." Samara: "Is this the part where you would say you've been waiting for me your all life?" Chris: "No that'd be a lie. And it certainly wouldn't be wise to tease a witch." Samara: (smiles) "What do you have to be afraid of, my powers don't work on you." Chris: (looks at her for a while) "You have a really nice voice, you know that? If.. anyone hasn't said it before." Samara: (laughs briefly with happiness) "Actually I hear that a lot." Chris: "It's definitely true. I mean, when you talk, I wanna shut the whole world up and just listen to you. Your voice.. It's so calm, so .. soothing. It's like a lullaby. I could listen to you all the time." Samara: "I don't speak much." Chris: "That's the beauty of it. You don't get it much, so you look forward to it." Samara: (looks impressed) "That.. was nice!" Chris: (smiles) "Thanks."
Caroline: "Look at them. Talking happily, hitting it on. They'd probably start dating in a week or two. But they'll learn it hard way that people like us are doomed to not have a moment of happiness." June: "You're exaggerating, Caroline." Caroline: "Am I?" June: "What happened to you and Tyler..." Caroline: (interrupts) "... is exactly what happened to Stefan and Elena." June: "No, it's different." Caroline: "No, it's exactly the same. Stefan had to choose between the woman he loved, and her choices. Elena he loved died under that bridge, and he knew it. And Tyler had to make a choice to save everyone he loves, and he knew that it could be the end of our relationship." June: "So what really bothers you is not that he fell out of love with you, but he fell in love with Katherine." Caroline: (feels down) "I hate that you can read my mind." June: "I don't have to read your mind to know this, Caroline. You're like an open book." Caroline: "So what am I supposed to do, give them my blessing?" June: "Yes, that's what you're supposed to do. What you guys had was beautiful, but it was in the past. He moved on, so should you! And who knows, maybe if you give her a chance you could even like her." Caroline: (laughs with discomfort) "Like Tyler does?" June: "Yes, like Tyler does. And like I do, like Christian does, like even Samara does at one point." Caroline: "They don't know half the things she's done. Katherine is malevolent, vicious, twisted, evil!" June: "Yes, she's all the things you said. But it's not because she chooses to be. She has to be like that." Caroline: "That's ridiculous, everyone has a choice." June: "Not people like her. Klaus chased her to the ends of the world to find and kill her, just because she didn't lay still and let herself be killed. She has been running for 5 centuries, just to stay alive." Caroline: "And now you're victimizing her." June: "It's because she is a victim. Of life, of Klaus, of everything. Caroline, you didn't have a child who was taken away from you, without even holding it once. You weren't banished from home, only to come back and find your family slaughtered. Katherine may be tough outside, but it still hurts her whenever she has to make a choice between herself and someone who can finally trust her. But she is trying to chance. And as much as you hate it, Mystic Falls is the only place she can feel home, so we have to give her the chance to prove herself." Caroline shakes her head, meaning "this can't be happening". Caroline: (jokingly) "You were supposed to be on my side. But you are backing her just because she looks like Elena." (June looks at her in a way indicating even she knows this is not true. After a while Caroline smiles not so willingly, but genuinely, and speaks without looking at June) "Fine, I'll try to get on well with her." Upon this June smiles, and turns to the band who just started to prepare for a new round.
Bonnie says she suddenly started to feel like this was a bad idea. Damon says it's because it is a bad idea. Meredith looks at the ice while trying not to make a sudden move, and asks now what. No one says a thing, and crackings increase. Suddenly Nathan yells Klaus to jump. He does, but as bad luck, he jumps to the wrong direction. As a result the ice he fell on breaks and he falls in the water. Though he manages to grab the edge, but it breaks in a second too. Luckily Damon catches him in the nick of time. He pulls Klaus out with great strength and throws him on a safe ice. But in doing so, he applied to much pressure to the ice he is on, so the ice breaks and this time Damon falls in the water. Though he manages to stay at the surface for a while, but the current is dragging him down. Nathan and Bonnie run to help him, but suddenly the ice Meredith stands on breaks and she too falls into the water. Nathan yells Meredith's name and runs to where she fell. Klaus, thinking she fell into the water, punches to the ice he stands on to break it, and dives in the water. However, Meredith has managed to hold the edge and Nathan comes to help her before she falls. Meanwhile Damon grabs Bonnie's hand, but the current pulls both of them down. Nathan pulls Meredith up. Then looks around and freaks upon seeing no one. Under the water, Klaus swims to Bonnie and Damon, and together they try to go to the surface, only to meet a tick ice. Bonnie tries magic to use heat and melt the ice, while Damon and Klaus are punching to break it. It works, and they manage to break it. As they are climbing, Nathan runs to help them, but suddenly a huge plate breaks and with the weight of all five of them, the plate turns upside down and leaves everyone under water. Only Meredith manages to escape by flying, but she is scared to see that the ice plate hit Nathan just when he reached the surface. She freaks and lands near the plate. She doesn't know what to do. Bonnie suddenly does some magic under water and breaks the ice plate with something like an explosion. Then they all go up and breath heavily. Meredith helps them to climb up, but is freaked when she sees Nathan is not among them. She asks where he is, but they don't know. Upon this Meredith doesn't think for a second and jumps in the water while the others are shocked with this action. Damon asks Bonnie if she can pull him out with magic. Bonnie says she can't unless she knows where he is. Then Bonnie asks the vampires if they can hear anything. Klaus says his ears are freezing. Bonnie looks helplessly into the water, not knowing what she can do. Meanwhile Meredith swims down, until she finds Nathan. She sees that he is unconscious and his head is bleeding due to hitting the ice. Quickly grabs him from his shirt, and pulls him up until they meet the ice. She looks around to see if she can find any openings. But there are not any. Bonnie and others at the surface start losing hope, considering the freezing water and the time they stayed underwater. But Meredith suddenly thinks of something. She pushes herself a little down, and while looking at the ice, her wings appear. Bonnie suddenly sees a huge plate of ice disappearing a little far from them. They understand that Meredith used her wings of destruction to break the ice. While they are looking with surprise, Meredith climbs up and pulls out Nathan, who is still unconscious. But when Meredith checks for the pulse, she sees that he is in fact dead. She desperately starts doing CPR, while telling his body that he can't leave her and he has to come back to her. Damon and Klaus look at her with sadness and pity. Bonnie too is looking upset. But Meredith's efforts eventually work, and Nathan suddenly throws up the water in his lungs and starts coughing. Meredith is shocked, and others heave a sigh of relief. While Meredith starts crying, Nathan looks at her and they hug each other. He breaths heavily, and says with the shock of almost dying, that she saved him. Damon, Klaus and Bonnie go near them. Meredith gets up when they come, and helps Nathan to get up. Damon tells them that they are taking a great risk. Klaus and him could just run there, but they are slowing them down. Besides, Meredith can't die for certain reasons, so they can't risk her. Meredith nods, and says she already used his wings of destruction to break the ice so she can't be much help today anyway. Nathan shakes his head and says he just wanted to help. Damon says he knows, and he appreciates it, but to be honest they don't need help. If everything goes as planned, no one will get hurt. After all phantoms can't hurt vampires, and they are told to not feed on Elena. They will simply grab her, and then run with their top speed. If they insist on coming they will only be phantom food. Best they can do is to go back and wait with others. Nathan breaths loudly for a while, then says he's right. Then he tells Damon and Klaus where the island is. Both wish each other good luck, and Meredith, Bonnie and Nathan head back. After they are gone, Klaus tells him that he played nice. No one suspected anything. Damon looks at him with discomfort, and says "Let's just get this over with". Then they start walking to where Nathan described. On earth, Christian takes Samara home. At the door she says she had a nice time. Christian says he had a nice time too. Samara tells him to let her know if other amateur bands who won some competitions would come to grill. Christian smiles and says he absolutely will. Then both wish each other good night, and Christian walks away. Caroline takes June back to Lockwood mansion. But before June gets out, Caroline thanks her for the night. June says she didn't do much. Caroline says she actually did. Understanding that she means the moral conversation they had, June smiles and wishes her good night. Then gets out. Caroline waits until she sees June gets inside, then drives away.
Man: "Brown and Jackson came too." Richard: "Then I guess we all are here." (gets up) "Which means we can start." Councilor: "Finally. Will you tell us why you called us here at this time of the night?" Richard: "My friends, I know I will be speaking for everyone when I say that yesterday we saw how corrupted our sheriff and mayor are." Councilor 2: "And what are you suggesting?" Richard: (clears his throat) "I want all of you to check the paper I gave you." Councilor 3: "It's the Declaration of Independence!" Richard: (turns to the man with the list) "Peter, will you please read us the highlighted line?" Peter: (looks at everyone, then looks at the paper) "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." Councilor 4: "What the hell does that supposed to mean!?" Richard: "My friends, yesterday our mayor used the rules our families put to dismiss us. The very rules our families put to ensure our safety. That proves how corrupted he is." Councilor 1: "Are you planning a move against the mayor?" Richard: "Not mayor. Vampires." Suddenly people start chattering indistinctively. Councilor 5: "Mayor and sheriff will lock us up!" Richard: "They can't. Because they will have nothing to charge us with." Councilor 2: "I don't know, Richard. Thinking about the people we'll be going up against.." Richard: "I understand. But we are in a dangerous time, my friends. Mayor and sheriff think that by dismissing us they are protecting the town but what they fail to see is they are leaving it defenseless. So we should step in where they fail, and we should protect our home at all costs! The real threat of Mystic Falls is and always has been vampires." (looks at everyone) "I don't care whatever you are. Human, werewolf, witch, kitsune, or whatever else. I don't care about your motives. I only care about one thing: if you are against vampires, you are with us. I respect my family, and I respect their teachings. I was born, and raised to hunt and kill vampires. This is what I do. This is my family legacy, and I'm never planning on giving up on it for whatever reason is in question. I will carry on this duty, and I will honor my family. The vampires must die! So if you are with me, stand up now." A deep silence hits the room, as the councilors look at each other. Then one by one, they all stand up. When they all stand up, Richard looks at them and smirks. His eyes are making it perfectly clear that he will stop at nothing before he kills all the vampires in town. |
